University Dean for Faculty AffairsPOSITION DETAILSThe Office of Faculty Affairs, within the Office of Academic Affairs, collaborates with faculty and administrators across the university to ensure CUNY is a place where faculty are supported and recognized for their essential contributions to students, the university, and their disciplines. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Faculty Affairs, the University Dean for Faculty Affairs is a senior staff member in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Faculty Affairs and an executive team member for the Executive Vice Chancellor and University Provost. The Dean is responsible for aligning faculty development initiatives with the university system's strategic priorities, particularly in areas related to teaching excellence, leadership, and student success. This role provides guidance and leadership for cross-campus collaborations and extra-curricular programs that benefit all faculty, ensuring faculty teaching development opportunities, managing the distinguished professor nomination process, organizing teaching conferences, and overseeing the selection and management of faculty fellows.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Designs and implements leadership development programs for faculty and department chairs.
- Provides ongoing professional development and support for academic leaders.
- Offers faculty teaching development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and instructional resources.
- Oversees the CUNY Innovative Teaching Academy and its activities.
- Facilitates collaboration and sharing of best practices among faculty.
- Fosters a culture of academic excellence and innovation across the university system.
- Monitors and assesses the effectiveness of faculty and leadership development programs.
- Prepares and presents reports on program outcomes and areas for improvement.
- Implements the CUNY COACHE survey, convenes a task force to review results, and provides CUNY-wide recommendations to the EVC and VC for Academic and Faculty Affairs.
- As a senior staff member within the Office of Academic Affairs, works with all senior members of the Central Office of Academic Affairs, as well as with the campus Chief Academic Officers and other campus administrators and faculty.
- May represent the EVC in PSC bargaining sessions; communicates information to the EVC and VC for Academic and Faculty Affairs and collaborates with the Office of Labor Relations.
- Supervises staff and performs other duties as
assigned.QUALIFICATIONSMinimum:This position is in CUNY's Executive
Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a
Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional
qualifications are defined below by the College.Preferred:
- Doctoral degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline
- Associate Dean or Associate Provost experience at the campus level
- Distinguished record of accomplishment, proven academic leadership, and administrative capabilities
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work
productively with all constituencies are necessary for this
positionCUNY TITLEDeanCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITSThe salary range for
this position is $170,000 - $180,000, commensurate with education,
